What do you control?

As Americans we love the idea of having the freedom to make our own choices and seemingly control our own destiny. We are the land of opportunity, and if you can dream it you can achieve it, and if you build it they will come.. Ok, so maybe that last one is a stretch, but you get the point. We love thinking that we are always in the driver’s seat calling the shots. But then the coronavirus comes to town. Now suddenly everything we thought we controlled is thrown out the window. Our financial security becomes a question. Our ability to come and go freely is hindered. The store shelves are empty. And our lives are suddenly at risk. The stable, secure American dream has come to a screeching halt and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Who in their right mind would ever do such a thing to us, the all-powerful American people? Well the answer is in fact that not only are we not all powerful but we actually have no power at all when it comes to the grand scheme of things. But there is one that is much bigger, much stronger, much more powerful, and absolutely 100% completely holier than us, and He is the only one that is actually in control. He is the one that has declared the end from the beginning. He is the one that always accomplishes his purposes. He is the one that no one can thwart His plans. And He is the one that graciously sent His son Jesus to die on a cross for our sins so that we would no longer have to live a life believing that we are in control. Friend when everything falls apart isn’t it wonderful to know that you are not in control! You don’t have to fret. You don’t have to worry. You don’t have to figure out a plan to save the world. You simply turn and trust all the more in the one you know truly has control, the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us be reminded today of the truth contained in the song we sang as children: “He’s got the whole world, in His hands. He’s got the whole wide world in His hands. He’s got the whole world, in His hands. He’s got the whole world in His hands”. Such a simple truth, but so valuable in times like these. Be encouraged today my friend. Jesus is still in control and we are not. And for that we are grateful! Praise be to His holy name!!

Isaiah 46:8-10 “Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, 9 remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
